I’m so glad that I have given an
opportunity to engage with indigenous people in Kampung Tementong. On 17th of
March we went to that village. We stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights.
Actually, it was my first time staying in a village and sleeping with my course
mates in a small kindergarten. I managed to stay there even though it was new
for me. On that day we had a few slots. First slot we had was people’s sports.
We were divided into little groups and mingle with indigenous people. They were
so sporting and volunteer themselves to participate in all the games. They were
too friendly and they just mingle up with us. I thought they were not accepting
us in their community, but they accept us. Second slot was a night with an
adopted family. So, all the students will have a host family and we should go
to their house. My host family was so friendly. Supposed I should ask them a
lot of questions, but then they were asking me a lot of questions. They took
care of me very well. They prepared for me juice and served some food. They
also companied me to the community hall because of getting late. I’m so shocked
because they treat me well. Then next day we had explorace. We had a lot of
games. We have just participated with them and played together. I was having so
much of fun and was so happy to mingle up with them. Then next slot is our slot
which is conducted by me and my course mates. This slot is specially for the children.
They were too excited to participate in our slot. The game was fully based on
ambition and education. They were happy and answered all the questions.
Actually, it was my good experience for me to work as a team with my course
mates. I also get to know them quite well and the bond between us get closer
than the last time. At night we had art and cultural night. It was so cool and
nice. I get to know about their culture well. They were sharing about their
cultures and they also had more performances for us. So, I get to know about
their dance very well. They also were open minded. Then the next day, we had
communal work with villagers. They were so kind hearted because they help us to
clean the village and they just volunteer themselves. Then we contribute few
important things to adopt my family. I gave it to my host family. They were so
happy and received from me. They asked me to come to visit them next time. It
was the most heart touching. I have never met purest people like them. They
also cooked for us and we had a lunch time together with the indigenous people.
The three days that I spend was so memorable and such good experience. I have
learned and adapt more things from them. Finally, I would like to thank UM for
preparing good course which is social engagement for student like us.
