Nur Fatehah Binti Kamarin
Based on the program social engagement that
been held at Kg Orang Asli Sungai Tementong, Kuala Lipis, Pahang. When the
preparation phase, we have work together to overcome all the conflict and
problem as a team.
When we arrived at the village, we have to
walk nearly one kilometer to arrived at the village.O ur journey to go to the
village is not easy because we have to walk in the hot weather as the tree have
been cut down. This journey to go to the village is pretty exhausting but
enjoyable. This is because I get to feel fresh air coming from the tree and did
not polluted. When we arrived at the village, the villagers are looking at us
curiously because we came to the village in big number. After lunch, we are being
told that the girls will sleep at the kindergarten and the boys will sleep at
the surau. However, the condition at the kindergarten are not conducive because
we have to share one toilet and the lamp inside the kindergarten are not
functioning. At night, we have separated in groups and we will go to our foster
parent’s house. Actually, my foster parents are a bit shy as they are embarrassed
to talk to us. Nevertheless, they are a great people as they invite us to come to
their house.
On the second day, ’My Dreams’ slot has been
conducted. During the slot, it is difficult to control the children as they are
very active. However, they always follow the instruction and very determined to
do the activities. During this one activity, there is one children that suddenly
sulk because he did not get a chance to answer the question and we have to
persuade him. It kind of shocking experience for me because I did not really know
how to persuade him to join the activity back. We get to experienced how life in
village are different from the city. The culture night that are being conducted
are not very exciting as there is technical problem and it disturb the flow of
the performance.
The last day, I can see the teamwork spirit
in Orang Asli life as they help us to cook for lunch and they offer to send us
to the bus so that we did not have to walk there.
The experienced that I get at the village
have teach me how to be grateful with life. This is because people in the
villages live in unfavorable situation but they still live happily. I also get
to see how their life change as they been transfer to the village for settlement and how their way of life
change. Nevertheless, this is a good experience for me to know about people and
gain knowledge that cannot be learn in the classroom.
