Nabilah Raihana Binti Abd Rahman
Nabilah Raihana Binti Abd Rahman ( AIA160057)
17 March – Friday (DAY 1)
We were asked to
gather at the 3rd Residential College at Pokok Tanjung area at 6.30 am. I was so sorry to my friends because
I was arrived a little bit late than the promised time. Since it was really
early, I can see that some of us were still half awake and they seemed very
tired especially those who stayed up. After everyone has arrived, then we
started to transfer all the stuff to the bus. For any heavy stuff like mineral
water and tents, we used car to transport it to the bus. It was a lot as we
will be staying there for 3 days. Then, we departed from the 3rd
college at 8.30am after we have done loading all the things into the bus.
After a long
journey, we finally reached our destination. it was 4-hour long journey. During
the trip, everyone in the bus was very quiet. There are some who were sleeping,
talking with their partner, and some just enjoying the view out of the windows.
In our bus, there are some people from REAL committees. So, I think that is why
we were quiet since we felt very awkward with them. For me, it was such a
pleasant journey. As for breakfast, we had it on the bus during the trip. We
were having only bread and chocolate milk. I thought I will be having Nasi
lemak instead of a ‘Gardenia’ bread. Such a demand girl. Actually, I did not
mind of what food will I get as long as I can store my energy. Thanks to Nadia,
who managed to find sponsor for our breakfast. Without it, we would not be able
to have breakfast. I felt so thankful for that. During the trip, I got sick
because of the motion. I just cannot stand with the motion produced by the bus.
I will feel nauseous and dizzy. So, I kept on eating snacks and ‘asam’. I
called ‘asam’ as my saviour because I only eat sour snacks to prevent myself
from vomiting. Luckily, I did not throw up during the bus journey. As time went
by, I unconsciously fell asleep next to Sabrina. As I woke up, I realized that
my head was already on Sabrina’s shoulder. How sleepy I was. Thanks to her for
lending me your shoulder. Hehehe …
Finally, we
arrived at the Kampung Sungai Tementung at 12.30pm. When everyone already got
down from the bus, we need to remove the stuff from the bus. unfortunately, the
bus cannot enter the village so we had to walk to village while carrying our
stuff and other equipment. It was such a tiring and exhausting journey as we
had to walk under a hot sun. FINALLY! I safely arrived to the village! I almost
felt like want to pass out. I bet they also felt the same way too.
While the male
students going for Friday prayer, all the female students were busy settling
down at the village and sorting stuff in Balai Raya. The female students were
given 1 hour to prepare ourselves and ready for our first slot which is gotong royong. At 2.30pm we had our very
first lunch. The food was sooo great!

At 3.00pm all
the student need to gather in front of the Balai Raya for group division for
gotong royong. really like gotong royong session, because I love
cleaning. So, I find that this is the most suitable slot for myself. I was
order to clean up the surau area. I just felt a bit disappointed because the
REAL people did not provide enough tools for us. So, it was a bit hard for me.
There are so many dogs in the village and I saw small puppies entered the surau
area. So, for me I find it a bit inappropriate to collect dried leaves or
trashes by using your bare hands. So, I asked the REAL MTs whether they can
give us any gloves or plastic bags so that we can continue clean up the outside
area. Since they did not have gloves, so we use plastic bag instead but we
still managed to complete it.
The next slot is
Sukan Rakyat that was held at Padang Bola and in front of Balai Raya. I like
this slot because during this time we can see all the villagers come down and
join the activities. As for men, they will play football at the football field
while the women they will play telematch
games. I saw the kids were so excited especially their moms, they even took
part in the games. The ANSOS students were also joining the villagers too in
the games.

Sabrina seemed so happy with the boys

The kids were enjoying the game so much. I
was also happy to see them enjoyed each of the games we organised for them. I
think Sukan Rakyat is just like an
ice breaking with the villagers where we can introduce ourselves and know them
a little bit.
So, for the next slot will be at night
where we will meet the host families. At first, I was really nervous to meet
the family. Because I am not a person who can mix with people easily. And I
feel scared that they would not feel comfortable and unready to meet us. Or
maybe I might disturb the family. I just could not explain how was my feeling
that time. I had so many thoughts in my mind like I might embarrass myself in
front of the family and other negative thoughts. On top of that, I was worried
that my words will hurt them and etc. When my name was called, I began to feel
nervous. My other members felt the same way too. The head family was not around
when I heard my group’s names were all called, so the children of the family
will lead us to their house. Then, the kids showed up and they led us the way
to go to their house. The way to their house was really dark. I just could not
imagine that how they go home when it is already dark. when we almost arrived,
the kids told us that wooden house belong to their family. When we arrived at
their house, I thought there was nobody at home because it was totally dark.
But when I called them, the mother showed up. When she opened the door, I saw
the house has no lights and they did not even have a single mat on the floor.
That touched my heart. I can see the condition of the house was really poor.
She even told us that she worried that we will not feel comfortable to be in
their house. She added, she was really sorry because her husband was not
feeling well. So, we had to cancelled our plan to visit the family. I felt very
sad for not being able to spend time with them. In order to respect the family
request, we decided not to continue our plan. Instead, we just talked with the
children and their cousins. the children’s cousins told us a lot of things
about this family and about the village. Even though they are small, but they
know a lot. until today, I feel very sorry for the family.

18 March 2017 – Saturday (DAY 2)
We had to wake up early in the morning
because the programme will start around 7.30am. then, we gathered in front of
the balairaya for the group division and senamrobik.
The activity that everyone has been waiting for is EXPLORACE!!!. I was so
excited and feel nervous because we have to mix with the villagers. Each group
consisted of 10 persons and from ANSOS, the villagers and the REAL
participants. I was in the same group as Ayu, as she cheated quietly and
shifted to my group because she wanted to be in a group that has me. Hahahaha…
oh ayu…. My group had so many small kids and they were around 2-5 y/o and one
mother. I still remember her name, Kak Lina. She was so kind and friendly
though. I felt that I have a mother that can look after me here in the village.
As the game started, the first checkpoint was flipping the bottle cap. It
sounded so easy but the reality is if you cannot control your hand correctly
the cap wont flip. I asked Kak Lina and 5 kids to play this game first. It was
so surprising where all of them could flip the bottle cap in 2 trials at least.
They are only 3 years! And the following checkpoints are very fun. Out of 10
checkpoints we only win 3 games if im not mistaken. The only game we felt that
we are the best winner of all is throwing balloon by using kain batik. I don’t
care what the name is but we managed to transfer all the balloons to another
group without break it. We were told that we are the first group that did not
break the balloon even one. *feel proud*
At the last checkpoint, all groups need to
go to the field where the last game will be a fashion show. The group need to
decorate one person from each group using newspapers. It was funn! We only have
20mins to finish it. I think everyone is soooo creative because there are so
many the pretty one. So here are the results…
After the explorace game has ended, this is
the time for ANSOS slot. I became the facilitator of my group along with Suma
and Wan. Our duty is to deliver the message of how important is the education
to the kids. The programme committees did a good job in organising the
programme and I noticed that all the kids were having fun. There are a lot of games were conducted by
the committee to attract the kids such as poisonous box, speed quiz, and many
more. I love to see their response when they receive a gift from us. during the
programme, our instructor, Artieqah had a small problem where the kids were so
uncontrollable. it was hard to control them as they were very hyper and
energetic. It was so chaotic. After all, we all had fun and it was a nice
experience though.
19 March 2017 – Sunday (DAY 3)
On the last day, we had to wake up early in
the morning to do the next programme which is visiting the villagers house and
distribute them the goods that we have provided. We gave them a full set of
basic amenities such as rice, sugar, cooking oil and many more. It was so sad
that some families are still living in a wooden house and the house conditions
are so bad. There were leakages everywhere and no electricity in their house. I
wish I could help them and build them a new house if I am rich. Later on, we
started to do gotong royong 2.0 in the village and some groups are doing rewang with the mothers for the lunch.
While preparing for the lunch, we attended the closing ceremony that was held
in Balai Raya. It was so sad to leave this place, I gained a lot of friends,
experiences, knowledges and many more. We will miss you until we meet again.
