I would like to share the experiences and lessons that I got from the trip to Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Temetong, Kuala Lipis, Pahang. To begin with the things before the trip was held or the preparation phase. I noticed that me and my team were lack of cooperation. I had a thought that there is no bonding, understanding or we are not close to each other enough and we are lack of communication among each other. There was a little bit misunderstanding of each other’s role and responsibilities and we were facing a little trouble at some task. That problems were occur in the middle of preparation. But eventually, during the final of preparation phase, we managed to solve the problems as each individual were doing their own responsibilities. I learned that every group work need a very strong relationship, understanding, honesty and responsibility of each group members to avoid any kind of barrier or conflict occur in the project.
Before arriving at the place, I was
thinking about the environment that I am going to lives in three days. I was
worried about my bed, lack of water at the village, how I am going to shower
and pee. The most remembered thought was I do not want to go to the villager’s
house because they practiced ‘spells’(jampi). Conversely as I reached the
village, even though I had a long journey of walking into the village, I was
amazed as I never watch this kind of placement. There was a row of houses along
the road and there were many more houses behind. There were houses made of
bricks and there were houses made of woods. There were also have kindergarten,
‘balai raya’ and ‘surau’.
As for the overview, I realized that
there are poor families or poor community still exist out there. This time I
experienced it at the very real moments or I can call it hands on experience. I
learnt on how their lifestyle, what they eat, drink and wear everyday. I still
can remembered the saddest part was how they can live in a small house like a
hut. Their houses were made of bamboo and woods. That was my adopted family’s
house. During the visit, the father asked me and my other friends whether we
bring medicine and it looks like they are very need medicine like for fever or
cough drop. The mother is also had heart disease. Unfortunately we were just brought
first aid box and it does not useful at all. I learnt that I should be grateful
with my current life which I can eat, drink and study conveniently. I will
prepare medicine, clothes or other useful stuffs whenever I had chance to
follow the trip like this in future.
